Moving and Handling training

Moving and Handling and Emergency First Aid Training

April 20, 20261 min read

In care, practical confidence matters. Whether you are supporting someone with mobility needs or responding to an emergency, the right training can make a real difference.

The Disability Resource Centre offers practical training opportunities that help carers and Personal Assistants build confidence in areas like moving and handling and emergency first aid.

Emergency First Aid Training

DRC has promoted free Emergency First Aid at Work training through the Care Academy, helping participants develop the knowledge and practical competence needed to deal with common first aid situations.

Topics covered have included:

  • Resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator

  • Minor injuries

  • Bleeding

  • Burns

  • Shock

  • Choking

  • Epilepsy

The aim is to help people respond more calmly, safely and effectively if an emergency happens.

Moving and Handling Skills

Good moving and handling practice is another essential part of safe care. DRC's wider training offer includes moving and handling learning designed for people working in care settings, helping participants understand safer approaches while protecting dignity and wellbeing.

This kind of training helps people:

  • Reduce the risk of injury

  • Support people more safely

  • Build practical confidence

  • Improve day-to-day care quality

Who This Training Is For

These courses are useful for:

  • Personal Assistants

  • Carers

  • People wanting to work in care

  • Employers who want a better understanding of safe and effective support

Whether you are experienced or just starting out, practical training helps turn knowledge into action.
