DRC Help with Benefits

Are You Getting the Benefits You're Entitled To? We Can Help You Find Out

April 14, 20264 min read

Every year, billions of pounds in disability benefits go unclaimed across the UK. Not because people don't need them — but because the system is complicated, the forms are daunting, and many people simply don't know what they're entitled to.

If you're a disabled person, a carer, or someone living with a long-term health condition in Bedfordshire, there's a good chance you could be receiving more financial support than you currently are. And we can help you find out — for free.

Why Benefits Are So Hard to Navigate

The UK benefits system was not designed with simplicity in mind. Forms for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) alone can run to over 50 pages, asking detailed questions about your daily life in ways that feel intrusive and confusing. Many people understate the impact of their condition because they don't know how to describe it in the way assessors are looking for — and as a result, they receive less support than they deserve, or are turned down altogether.

It doesn't help that the rules change frequently, eligibility criteria can be unclear, and many people are simply unaware that certain benefits exist. Attendance Allowance, for example, is claimed by far fewer people than are eligible for it — simply because people don't know it's there.

That's where we come in.

What DRC's Benefits Advisors Can Help With

Our specialist benefits advisors provide free, confidential, independent advice on the full range of disability and welfare benefits. We can help you with:

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) — Whether you're making a new claim, facing reassessment, or have been turned down, our advisors can help you understand the criteria, complete the forms accurately, and prepare for assessments.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) — Still in payment for some claimants, particularly children. We can help you understand your situation and what to expect as the system continues to evolve.

Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) — If your health condition or disability affects your ability to work, ESA may be available to you. We can help you understand the work capability assessment process and support you through it.

Attendance Allowance — For people over State Pension age who need help with personal care due to a physical or mental disability. Many eligible people never claim this — our advisors can check whether you qualify.

Carers Allowance — If you spend 35 or more hours a week caring for a disabled person, you may be entitled to Carers Allowance. We can help carers understand their own rights and entitlements, not just those of the person they care for.

Benefits checks — Not sure what you might be entitled to? We can carry out a full benefits check to make sure you're not missing out on anything.

Form filling — We'll sit with you and help you complete your forms correctly, making sure your answers accurately reflect the impact your condition has on your daily life.

Appeals and tribunals — If your claim has been refused or your award reduced, don't give up. Many decisions are overturned at appeal. Our advisors can help you understand your options, prepare your case, and support you through the mandatory reconsideration and tribunal process.

Real Results for Real People

The difference that correct benefits advice makes to people's lives is enormous. Here's what some of our service users have said:

"All very helpful with completing the PIP forms — and also the appeal forms and tribunal forms. Thanks to you I was successful."

"We were helped to fill out the PIP form correctly first time and reduced our fears over getting it wrong."

"The benefits advisor that I saw was very helpful, and because of his help my husband was awarded Attendance Allowance."

These aren't rare outcomes. Year after year, DRC advisors help local people claim over £1 million in benefits they were already entitled to — but hadn't been receiving.
