Employer Academy — Helping Employers Build More Inclusive Workplaces

April 20, 20261 min read

Creating a more inclusive workplace takes more than good intentions. Employers need practical support, better understanding and the confidence to make meaningful changes.

That is the purpose of the Disability Resource Centre's Employer Academy.

The Employer Academy is designed to support employers of disabled people by helping them build stronger workplace cultures, improve understanding and develop better approaches to recruiting and retaining disabled staff.

What the Employer Academy Focuses On

The Employer Academy helps employers think more clearly about:

  • Workplace culture

  • Recruitment and retention

  • Disability inclusion

  • Skills and confidence across teams

  • Building a more supportive environment for disabled employees

The live DRC site describes the Employer Academy as support for employers who want to transform the culture and skills mix of their business while improving how they recruit and retain people with disabilities.

Why This Matters

Inclusive employment benefits everyone. When employers understand disability better and design workplaces more thoughtfully, they are more likely to:

  • Attract a wider range of talent

  • Keep good staff for longer

  • Reduce barriers to employment

  • Improve confidence and communication across teams

  • Create workplaces where disabled people can thrive

This kind of change does not happen by accident. It grows from practical support, shared learning and a willingness to improve.

A Collaborative Approach

The DRC has already highlighted positive feedback from Employer Academy activity, including partnership work with the University of Bedfordshire. That shows the value of bringing together employers, training and community expertise to create more inclusive opportunities locally.
