Helping you keep cool in the heatwave

We’ve found some handy links (thanks to our new volunteer, Owen) to help you in the heatwave in summer 2022:

The Guardian features tips including wearing loose, long-sleeved clothing and avoiding cold showers.

The NHS website includes advice on how to cope in hot weather. They say ‘Look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated – older people, those with underlying health conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk’.

The Met Office offer; Tips for keeping cool in hot weather. They say ‘Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm, when the UV rays are strongest. Walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat, if you have to go out in the heat’.

Age UK gives us; Advice for staying cool in a heatwave.

They suggest that we should aim to drink 6 – 8 glasses of liquid a day, and more if it’s hot.

British Red Cross features tips to Beat The Heat in hot weather.

A great tip in baking hot weather, is to drench a t-shirt, and keep it wet, which can be really effective.

Sky News has some interesting tricks on the best ways to stay cool including, during the day, place your pillowcase or pyjamas in the freezer. Then take them out before going to bed. And they say wearing lighter coloured clothes should keep you cooler.
